When should you spend a scarce ball?

Compare the candidate with the team before throwing. If the Pokémon does not address a need, leaving preserves the resource for another encounter. This is a resource recommendation, not a tested optimal catch strategy.

If all six party slots are filled, a successful catch goes to the Box. Check there before concluding a ball was wasted.

Can you throw again after a failed attempt?

The help permits one throw per encounter. A failed capture does not guarantee another attempt against that target. Check the result and remaining supplies before the next node.
